Age Concern Barnet offers a range of day services to the older residents of the London Borough of Barnet from its two centres - the Meritage Centre in Hendon and the Ann Owens Centre in East Finchley.  These services include:

Day centres
Age Concern Barnet runs two day centres for older people within the London Borough of Barnet. These are the Meritage Centre and the Ann Owen Centre. We provide door to door transport for as many of our clients as possible. Dial-a-Ride also brings clients into our centres, if they are registered with the service. The centres are places where you can go to make new friends, or meet up with old ones. Each centre has an extensive programme of activities and services on offer. Please see the following.

To become a client at our day centres you can be referred by social services or you can refer yourself. Potential clients must be over 60. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide constant one-to-one care, but should clients require this they are welcome to bring their carers. Hairdressing
Want to update your look?  Need a trim?  Or just want to look amazing? Hairdressing is available at the Ann Owens and Meritage Centres at very reasonable prices. Have your hair done at the Meritage Centre every Thursday and Friday. The hairdresser is available at the Ann Owens Centre on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. To book your appointment call the centre you would like to attend, i.e. the Meritage Centre on 020 8432 0965 or the Ann Owens Centre on 020 8432 1423.

Nail cutting service
The Ann Owens Centre offers a nail cutting service for a charge of £5.00.  This service is available to all London Borough of Barnet residents over the age of 55.  Toe and fingernails can be cut and a simple foot and/or hand massage offered.  For more information and to book an appointment, contact Cecilia Vivado at the Ann Owens Centre on 020 8432 1423.

The nail cutting service at the Meritage Centre has been suspended for the time being.  Please call Cecilia to book an appointment at the Ann Owens Centre.

Computer suites
Need to use a computer? Want to learn how? Age Concern Barnet has computer suites with new and up-to-date computers in both centres. These are free for all people over the age of 55. Someone is on hand to help you use them and answer any questions.


Computer classes
Age Concern Barnet runs computer classes on Wednesdays at the Meritage Centre in Hendon.

Classes run at two levels, the first for people who have never switched on a computer or have very little experience. The other is for those who would like to gain confidence and expand their knowledge. Our classes aim to help people use the internet, email, create, save and format documents.

Classes take place in the mornings from 10:30am to 12:00pm and in the afternoons from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. There are four people per class.

Each course of six weeks costs £20.00. Payment should be made once we have written to you offering you a place on the next available class.

Meet the Safer Neighbourhood Team
Age Concern Barnet’s Meritage Centre is host to surgeries run by the local community police’s Safer Neighbourhood Team. A fabulous new initiative, the surgeries offer advice on issues such as safety at home, travelling safely and how to report crime. The Safer Neighbourhood Team will be at the Meritage Centre to speak to you in person about your concerns and there are plenty of leaflets for you to take away.
