Benefits advice
Safia Akram, Age Concern Barnet's Benefits Adviser provides advice on a variety of issues including benefits, housing, debts, community care, direct payments and legal matters. Safia can also help with accessing services such as health social care and housing and signpost you to other services.  Appointments can be made to see Safia at both the Meritage Centre in Hendon and the Ann Owens Centre in East Finchley. Home visits are available to the housebound.  Email Safia Akram or contact her on 020 8432 1419.

Help yourself 2008 - A guide for older people in the London Borough of Barnet
The Help yourself 2008 guide is a useful source of information for older people. It is a definitive guide to services and activities in the London Borough of Barnet for people aged 55 and over, produced by Barnet Council and Barnet Primary Care Trust. It is brimming with everything you need to know about staying healthy and getting the most out of life.  The guide is available online and FREE copies are available from Barnet Libraries or Barnet Council’s Adult Social Services offices. Alternatively, you can email the Information Officer for Adult Social Services or call 020 8359 4579.

TaxHelp for Older People (TOP)
Age Concern Barnet hosts free tax advice surgeries provided by the charity TaxHelp for Older People (TOP). This service is provided to those aged over 60 and on low incomes (less than £15,000 a year household income).  Anyone wanting advice can ring 0845 601 3321 or 01308 488066. TOP will answer simple questions over the telephone. For other problems a meeting with a volunteer adviser will be arranged.
