Age Concern Barnet’s “Active Ageing” photography competition closed on 31 July 2009. It was judged today by Andrew Dismore MP, and Julia Hines, Age Concern Barnet's Chair and Chief Officer, Mark Robinson. Judging took place at Age Concern Barnet Meritage Centre in Hendon.
The winning photo entitled "Walking couple", was taken by John F King, aged 83 of Parkway, N20. The photo is of Ralph, 74 and Pam, 68, formerly of Parkway, N20 (now resident in Cannes) walking down a street in Biot near Cannes in France. John has won £100 to spend on photography equipment, donated by Titan Travel.
The competition's three runners-up are:
Jeanette Thompson, aged 61 of Grasvenor Avenue, Barnet for her picture of a lady gardening. Jeanette won a pair of tickets to East Finchley's Phoenix Cinema.
David Solomons, aged 76 of Gloucester Road, Barnet for his picture of "Boatman on Yangtze River" in China. This boatman has been taking passengers along the Yangtze River in his small boat, in all weathers, for the past seventy years! David also won a pair of tickets to East Finchley's Phoenix Cinema.
Mark Kosta, aged 65 of Barnet for his picture of Colin working on his allotment. Mark won a pair of tickets to the artsdepot, North Finchley.
The competition was open to all residents in the London Borough of Barnet over the age of 55. It aimed to promote the value of older people depicting them as fit, healthy and active. Entrants were encouraged to interpret this brief widely.
Entries came from all over the borough and all pictures are on display at the Meritage Centre, for all to see, until the end of August.
